ABOUT
Collaboratories are collaborations that ReSEED establishes with people and projects to discuss subjects related to our research which require knowledge of diverse disciplines. The Collaboratories aim to solve problems in an inter and transdisciplinary way in partnership with colleagues from other scientific areas inside and outside our institution, the University of Coimbra.
Agro_ORG collaborations discuss the issues linked to institutions and organisations associated with agriculture and seeds. We are interested in exploring how different kinds of organisations historically connected to agriculture can help to identify the edible seed’s dissemination in the Iberian Peninsula.

The project examines the processes of ordering, designing and producing essential civic and rural equipment for local communities in southern Portugal between the end of the Second World War and accession to the European Community. ArchNeed analyses, among other structures, buildings and ensembles linked to the production, storage and processing of agricultural products: granaries, cooperative facilities, wineries, warehouses and olive presses.
It maps out a set of important organisations for agricultural and rural activities in the 20th century and their intervention in the built environment of Southern Portugal and allows us to analyse whether those infrastructures correspond to the needs of the products that are processed there, to the demands of local and international markets. One example is the granaries built in the 1940s, 50s and 60s. Are they adequate for the type of cereals, are the conditions of preservation correct?
ReSEED contributes with historical information in the analysis of the efficiency of these organisations in both their functional and infrastructural aspects.
